I like this! rumpled-ness of the brown paper and parts hanging off edges work well, i think.

This is a wonderful collage! I attended Matt’s talk and collage-making event held in conjunction with the Kurt Schwitters exhibition at the Berkeley Museum. It was an inspiring event — so inspiring, in fact, that I am in the process of attempting to hold a similar event at the museum where I work.

I have a question I’m hoping someone can answer. In his gallery talk, Matt had a great quote about the process of art-making, and collage-making in particular, that was inspired by the words of a jazz musician. It went something like this: “When you make a collage, you keep adding and adding until you create a situation for yourself that you don’t know how to get out of. Solving that problem is the challenge, and the creativity, of collage.” (Except, it was more eloquent.)

Does anyone recall this quote (Matt…)? I’ve thought of it about a bazillion times since the event, but I wish I had it right. Thank you!
